During the 4th Welcome tour, we visited Edogawa City, the hometown area of Mr. Kamiyama. In Higashi-Ojima, we observed the Arakawa Lock Gate and the super levee, where we learned about river transport, flood control, and land subsidence. After that, in Funabori and Nishi-Kasai, we enjoyed Indian cuisine while also learning about the background behind the formation of the local Indian community. Finally, we moved to the waterfront area, where we examined public space development, large-scale housing complexes, and logistics districts, before arriving at Kasai Rinkai Park. Through the tour, we gained a strong sense of how land use in eastern Tokyo changes significantly from inland areas toward the waterfront, and also realized that Tokyo is not necessarily structured as a city oriented toward the sea.
